Our own enclosed transporter means a vehicle can move between your home and The Vehicle Archive fully covered — no exposed trailer, no motorway miles on the clock, no arranging a third party and hoping.

When it makes the most sense

  • Vehicles off the road, on SORN or not currently running
  • Newly purchased vehicles going straight into storage
  • Classics you would rather not put a long motorway run on
  • Longer distances, or anything through central London traffic
  • Inherited vehicles being moved out of a property
  • Low, valuable or freshly finished cars

Protected transport

Enclosed or otherwise protected transport may be available depending on the vehicle, location and requirements. For a low or valuable car that is usually the right answer; for a robust modern classic on a short hop it may be unnecessary. We will tell you which we think you need rather than selling you the more expensive one.

Suitability

Collection is offered for suitable vehicles and is subject to size, weight and access at both ends. Larger and unusual vehicles are considered individually.

How it is priced

Collection and delivery is quoted individually rather than sold at a fixed rate per mile. Distance, the vehicle, whether it runs, access at both ends and the type of transport all change the answer, and a published mileage rate would only be right by accident.

It is optional. You are perfectly welcome to bring the vehicle in yourself.

Where we collect from

Most collections are from Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, London and the wider Home Counties, though longer distances can usually be arranged. The same applies in reverse: when you want the vehicle back, it can be returned to you.

How much does collection cost?

It is quoted individually depending on the vehicle, the distance, whether it runs, access at both ends and the type of transport required.

We do not publish a rate per mile because it would be wrong more often than right.

Can you collect a vehicle that doesn't run?

Usually yes. Non-runners, vehicles on SORN and vehicles that have not moved in years can generally be collected.

Tell us the condition and what access is like at the collection point and we will confirm what is needed.

Is collection required to store with you?

No, it is entirely optional. You are welcome to bring the vehicle in yourself by arrangement.

It exists because for some vehicles and some owners it is simply the sensible way to do it.
